Team Kanban Practitioner (TKP)

February 13, 2020

Bilbao, Spain

Trainer: Andreas Bartel

The Team Kanban Practitioner course teaches the basics of the Kanban Method and serves as the entry level and starting point to an “alternative path to agility.” During this 1-day class, attendees will learn the right way to do Kanban, from the source.

Kanban is the ‘alternative path to agility’. Through this training you will understand clearly what ‘agility’ is and how this approach is distinct.  You will understand the problems the Kanban Method was designed to solve, the principles and practices of how it works to the point where you can explain it well to others and participate fully in a kanban system.

There are six General Practices and you already know one – visualizaiton. This training immerses you in simulations and gives you experience in applying practices beyond that. Attendees will learn how to operate in a kanban system. You will learn how to contribute to better results using the basic practices you can apply in a custom implementation or with good software that supports the Method.

This is an introductory course, but the knowledge shared and skills practiced are complete. Attendees will often have experience ‘using Kanban’ but the material in this class will be entirely new to them. It is the only class of its kind certified by Kanban University.

Team members in professional services roles whose employer wishes to explore and pursue an alternative path to agility. Those who feel overburdened and wish to find some respite to enable them to “get things done” with quality, improved speed, and predictability. Managers and team members who need help focusing on what to work on now, what to leave until later and what to discard altogether. Those who want relief from overburdening so that they can take pride of workmanship and do good quality work in an effective manner.

  • People new to the Kanban Method
  • Whole teams that want to start with Kanban
  • Members of (future) Kanban teams
  • People that “have Kanban happening to them”, they are not the active drivers of initiatives (yet)
  • People who need basic knowledge, eg. ScrumMasters possibly driving future implementations
  • Team leads (giving them a basic understanding though this is not teaching them to manage)
  • All new hires in “kanbanized” organizations

Learning Outcomes

Attendees should become familiar with the Kanban Method. They should be able to design and implement a basic Kanban board. They should be able to understand work item types and the risks associated with specific work items.
